EASTER : The Thursday Procession.
Among the old traditions in our area alive and feel certainly the procession of Holy Thursday, one of the richest processions, spectacular, and while perhaps the most mystical and felt in Sicily.
On the occasion of Easter and more precisely on Holy Thursday (the Thursday before Easter) the town of Marsala changing face. All through the streets of downtown waiting for the exit of the Procession of the Mysteries, from Sant’Anna Church.
A tradition over 350 years. Religious and folk together, with human characters is the Life, Passion and Death of Jesus by preaching the miracles, from Judas' betrayal to the "falls" under the weight of the Cross, which are certainly among the most dramatic moments and full pathos.
The parade is very impressive, the characters, all made from vintage clothes, recite the sacred texts with great emotion and transport, the Veronica, young girls in costumes and precious jewels, they create a colorful and spectacular scenery.
A contrast between the sacred and the profane, faith and show to perpetuate the memory, never to forget what Christ has done for humanity.
LA MADONNA della CAVA: Patroness of Marsala, is celebrated January the 19 with a procession that sees around the streets of downtown to its small white statue. The statue has a particular story, it was found after a premonitory dream and extensive research into a well where now stands his temple. Many tell of thanks received by the Madonna della Cava.
SAN GIOVANNI: According Patrone of Marsala, is celebrated on June 24. During the day open the same name Boeo Church on the waterfront. This, now fully renovated, is situated on an area already considered sacred in ancient times. From the church of San Giovanni it is possible to access, through a narrow tunnel, a cave where there is a little sourse ... from here it says that the Sibyl in ancient times foretold the future and gave his oracles. Wineries Open: Last weekend of May all the Marsala wineries open their doors to visitors to know the stage of production, aging and bottling their wines, including the 'Marsala' famous throughout the world.
