The Stagnone natural park and the and Saline:
To little kilometres from Marsala historical center we find us in a surreal landscape: the Stagnone Lagoon.
It is a natural reserve and the greatest lagoon of the whole Sicily. It offers to the visitor sea, green islets, reeds, wind mills, white salt dunes, tiles and…wonderful sunsets with the sky colored of purple, gold, orange, pink..
The characteristic of the Reserve is surely the presence of the Salt Pans( Saline) artificial tubs for the salt extraction, create on the coast in ancient times and still today existents. Been born in fact under the Phoenician domination, alternating prosperity moments of abandonment moments, they have come productive up to us. Now a proud but simple combination of sun, water and wind creates a very good sea salt, worked today as once.
 The landscape, with this Salt Pans and Wind Mills, seems a picture of other times. Among the Mills, one, that of Ettore Infersa, entertains the Salt Museum.
Then the typical Mediterranean flora, the Palm tree, the colored flowers in spring and the migratory birds. Infact is not difficult, especially in determined periods of the year, to see Italy Riders, Ducks, Herons and White and Pink Flamingos.
The Lagoon is frequented also from Kitesurf or Windsurf, because usually the sea is water is deep but at the same time the zone is exposed to all the winds.
Mothia: the Lagoon has 4 islets. Among these Mothia, a real museum to the open space of the punic-Phoenician civilization. They are only few hundred meters to separate the island of Mozia from the land. Anciently a road connected Mozia to Marsala, now this road  is submerged, but still visible and practicable with the low tide.
Today Mozia is easily reached in 15 minutes with some typical boats.

When you arriv realize that it is a small natural and archaeological miracle. The excursion is along the perimeter of the island to the discovery the rests of ancient staircases, residences, mosaics and then the Cothon, rare example of artificial punic Port, the Tophet, the sacred area of the human sacrifices. Finally the Whitaker Museum with the Giovinetto di Mozia, a beautiful Greek statue to natural greatness, of the V sec. a.C.
The Lagoon and the Reserve are beautiful in everytime. I Suggest a walk in bicycle, if the time is beautiful a turn in canoe and an appetizer to the sunset: the colors of this angle of sea will stay in the memory and in the heart.
